Pollen Productions

CHALLENGE

Create a new web presence and online store for Pollen Productions with emphasis for subscription bouquets delivered monthly. Develop a photo library for the site that reflects the style of floral designs being offered to customers.

SOLUTION

To develop consistency between website and bouquet, we held a photo shoot that captured a variety of the offerings, but I ended up gaining the most design-insight by observing the client build bouquets in preparation for the photography sessions. Not too long after, a successful online store was built with monthly bouquet subscription offerings.

My Role

  • Develop the brand through imagery, colors, product aesthetics, and client personality
  • Direction of a photography session
  • Website design through SquareSpace
  • Integrating an online web store through payment processing provider Stripe

PROCESS

Interviews with Pollen Productions produced a clear understanding of goals, personal style, and desired outcomes for the site design. These conversations are integral to designing in line with the client’s wants and needs. We covered a variety of topics such as light/dark, masculine/feminine, modern/classic, playful/serious, etc. to narrow down the story to be told. Reviewing photos from previous events help provide additional insight to desired look and feel.

Conducting a photoshoot gave additional design direction for the site by getting to see how the owner works, finer details about the offerings, and allowing the client show her personality throughout the day. Preparations for the shoot such as lighting, location, models, offerings, props, etc. were important for having an efficient studio session that would yield professional photographs. The success of the photoshoot enabled us to have a large variety of detailed product photos to excite customers and drive sales.

Throughout the process, I was constantly revising a color palette for the site, typically after each meeting or photoshoot, I was able to narrow down the colors further. The client always had very lush and deep colors in all the arrangements and I wanted to reflect this within the site. The colors shown on this page help reflect the feel and tone we wanted to achieve when creating the site.

The site design focused around the idea to have people to subscribe to the monthly bouquet delivery. At any point during a site visit, the customer can view available subscriptions and subscribe in just a few clicks. Reducing obstacles was key to making it simple and easy to subscribe.

With a new mobile ready and responsive site, the client was able to show off their cohesive style and offerings, while easily driving customers to subscribe for monthly bouquets, generating higher monthly revenue.
